Cellar
Waterproofing - The Basics
If you have a cellar then you know how often
it can get wet. This is why cellar waterproofing is becoming
more popular every year. With that said, here is a look at the
basic steps in how to do cellar waterproofing and have a
worry-free home. As you will see, it isn't as difficult as you
might have thought.
1. Inspection
The first thing you will want to do is an
inspection of the cellar. Where are the leaks? Where is the
water coming from? What I recommend is that you have a
waterproofing contractor come out to your home and give you an
inspection themselves. This is free and the advice can be
invaluable. You do not have to have them do the work. But they
will tell you what the problems are and how to go about fixing
them. Of course, you have the option of letting them do the
work, but it is not a requirement.
2. Determine the Function of the
Cellar
What are your future plans for the cellar?
This will help determine what type of cellar waterproofing you
will want to go with. Cellars most of the time are used as a
storage area due to its subdued lighting. Think what room you
want and determine its positive and negative qualities. For
example, dark rooms can be a perfect home theater. It can also
be a good photography studio. Think of certain activities in
order to decide on the cellar's function.
3. Air Circulation
The cellar might be in the lower portion of
the house which can often times lead to poor air circulation.
Air circulation into the cellar is as important as planning on
building up the space. You might be suggested to have vents to
make air pass through and enjoy the air you breathe. Again, a
waterproofing company can help determine this as well.
Cellar waterproofing is pretty
straightforward when you plan out the steps in a methodical
way. Once you have the basics down you will be able to move
forward and get the work done.
